Frankie Irving, whom the organization is named for, was a phenomenal woman. A devout Christian and a woman of strong faith, Frankie had a towering presence in Belzoni, Mississippi where she was born and lived most of her life. She was widely known and respected throughout the community. A dedicated mother of six children; she raised three sons as a single parent. Frankie was a strict disciplinarian who took a no nonsense approach to raising her children, She instilled in each of them dignity, integrity, hard work, respect and a devotion to God. Despite limited financial means, she taught her children that failure was not an option; she did not permit excuses as a substitute for excellence.
Frankie worked in the Humphreys County School District for more than thirty years. Through hard work and ingenuity, she moved from the District’s janitorial staff to the Office of the Superintendent. She believed education was the passport to the future, and encouraged everyone she encountered to set high standards and pursue the highest level of education possible.
Frankie was an active member of White Star Baptist Church. She served as president of the usher board and manager of the culinary staff. Both positions she served with pride. Because of the tough standards she set and wielded over the church’s kitchen – no dish was served without her careful inspection, Upon her death in 2017, the kitchen was officially named “Frankie’s Kitchen” in her memory.

Named in memory of my mother Frankie Irving, I created Frankie’s Kitchen as a vehicle to provide support and assistance to single parents and their children. The youngest child of a single mother, I know firsthand the challenges faced by children from single parent households. Consequently, I am committed to ensuring that children from single parent households receive the physical, mental and spiritual nurturing they deserve. My number one priority is to help bridge the gap between these families and concerned individuals who can offer a helping hand. My vision for Frankie’s Kitchen is to build successful partnerships and encourage community involvement to help address issues that can interfere with the development and limit the opportunities of children from single parent households. We wholeheartedly embrace the notion that feeding the soul fuels the growth necessary to produce healthy, happy and successful children. We understand that success is not measured in dollars and cents, but by the depth of our commitment to "Frankie's Kids" and leaving the world in a better place than we found it. It is my greatest desire that my mother’s legacy of strength, faith and love will live on in the hearts and minds of these beautiful children. Thanks for supporting Frankie’s Kitchen. -Craig Irving
